"Since the series' release in February, we've witnessed a significant increase in engagement, with Datejust sales on our platform rising by 11%," says Quaid Walker, cofounder and CEO of Bezel, in an interview with Robb Report. "What's more remarkable is the Datejust's consistent popularity, which showcases its enduring appeal and structural strength in the market. Cultural moments like this serve as a testament to its timeless relevance."
The Rolex Datejust, launched in 1945 to commemorate Rolex's 40th anniversary, was a revolutionary timepiece. It was the first self-winding wristwatch with an automatic date window, marking a significant advancement in watchmaking. Over the years, Rolex has released numerous variations, offering more dial, bezel, and bracelet options than any other model. The Datejust has been the best-selling Rolex model for much of its history, and its timeless design and multigenerational appeal have made it an icon.
The Cartier Tank, a 1920s timepiece, shares a similar story. Its timeless elegance and refined design have made it a favorite among horophiles for generations. JFK Jr.'s Tank LC in the show is a rose-gold masterpiece, while Kennedy's Tank Must is a sleek steel iteration. Jackie Kennedy's real-life love for the Tank is well-documented, with an 18-karat gold Tank selling for a staggering $379,500 at Christie's in 2017. "While smaller, vintage-inspired watches have gained attention recently, the Tank's distinct and resilient position is due to its design legacy and historical significance," Walker explains. "When a series like 'Love Story' highlights such an iconic piece, it reignites the conversation, reminding collectors, both new and seasoned, of the enduring value of these foundational models."
