This transition proved significant; the team replaced approximately 160,000 lines of C++ code (excluding tests) with 90,000 lines of Rust code (including tests). The efficiency of Rust not only improved memory safety but also performance, making it a compelling choice for widespread implementation across various platforms including Android, iOS, Mac, Web, and Wearables. Sommermann and Wang assert, "We believe this marks the largest global rollout of any library written in Rust."

Although Meta has long cautioned users about potentially dangerous files, this update aims to counteract more subtle forms of malware disguised within commonplace media formats such as images and videos. PDFs are frequently exploited for malware delivery due to certain embedded elements that can be malicious. Meta actively checks these commonly used file types for potential risk indicators.

They also highlight their ability to detect files that pretend to be something else through misleading extensions or MIME types.
